Per Koch Bulletin PB-1202, the Koch DuraKleen Single Header MERV 8 is a high-efficiency gas-phase V-cell carbon filter engineered for environments with airborne molecular contamination (AMC) at sub-ppm levels. The DuraKleen uses Koch's patented Celbond Particulate Structure (CPS) technology, suspending 500 gsm of 20x50 mesh activated carbon in a tightly bonded three-dimensional network of bicomponent fibers. This Single Header configuration is rated MERV 8 and is sized to fit single header housing configurations.
What you get: V-cell gas-phase carbon filters, sold by the case
Each variant is a complete DuraKleen Single Header MERV 8 V-cell filter with the CPS-technology carbon media. All variants are 12″ deep; pricing varies by face dimensions:
- 24″x24″x12″ — 6 lbs carbon, Single filter per case
- 20″x25″x12″ — additional size — 5 lbs carbon, Single filter per case
- 20″x24″x12″ — 6 lbs carbon, Single filter per case
- 20″x20″x12″ — additional size — 3.7 lbs carbon, Single filter per case
- 12″x24″x12″ — 3 lbs carbon, Case of 2
Sizes marked "additional size" are stocked by RTF beyond Koch's PB-1202 standard published sizes (24x24x12, 20x24x12, 12x24x12). The 20x20x12 and 20x25x12 dimensions use the same CPS construction at proportional carbon load.
Celbond Particulate Structure (CPS) technology
CPS technology is the key differentiator that distinguishes DuraKleen from standard honeycomb carbon filters:
- Carbon distribution: Activated carbon is suspended in uniform distribution throughout a tightly bonded three-dimensional network of bicomponent fibers — no honeycomb cells or loose granular carbon.
- Carbon mesh size: 20x50 mesh — small mesh = high efficiency. Smaller carbon particles expose more surface area to the airstream per unit volume.
- Carbon load: 500 gsm. The combination of small mesh and high gsm gives DuraKleen an outstanding balance of first-pass removal efficiency, filter life, and low pressure drop.
- Bonding efficiency: The fiber-to-carbon bond obstructs only approximately 1% of the carbon's surface area, leaving roughly 99% available for gas adsorption.
- Tortuous airflow path: Gas contaminants pass through tortuous pathways inside the CPS media, ensuring intimate contact between contaminant molecules and the carbon adsorption surface.
- Eliminates post-filtration: The fiber-to-carbon bond eliminates the need for post-filtration in most applications — the carbon stays where it's placed and doesn't shed downstream.

Airborne molecular contamination (AMC) and polishing filtration
DuraKleen is engineered for environments where gas-phase contaminants need to be reduced to sub-ppm levels — concentrations where standard carbon filtration starts to lose effectiveness. Typical AMC applications include:
- Cleanrooms and semiconductor manufacturing: trace amines, acids, and organics that interfere with photolithography and surface chemistry
- Museum and archive preservation: trace acids and oxidants that degrade paper, photographs, textiles, and artwork over time
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing: trace contaminants that affect product purity
- Hospital sensitive areas: sub-ppm gas-phase contaminants in operating theaters, isolation rooms, and laboratory spaces
- Polishing filtration: Used downstream of higher-capacity filters (such as DuraPure) to reduce residual contaminant concentrations to levels that primary filters can't reach efficiently
DuraKleen is also available in other media options for the removal of specific types of amines and acid gases — request a quote with your target contaminant profile.
Applications
DuraKleen is specified for:
- Chemical Storage Rooms
- Hospitals
- Sports Arenas
- Laboratories
- Airports
- Casinos

- Commercial Buildings
Choosing your DuraKleen configuration
DuraKleen ships in five configurations for housing compatibility and integrated particulate filtration capacity. The choice depends on your existing filter housing and what level of integrated particulate capture you need alongside the gas-phase performance:
- DuraKleen Single Header MERV 15
- DuraKleen No Header Box Style MERV 8
- DuraKleen No Header Box Style MERV 15
- DuraKleen Double Header MERV 8
If you're unsure which configuration fits your existing filter housing, contact RTF support with your housing make/model and we'll help you specify the right header configuration. The MERV rating reflects the integrated particulate filtration capacity of the configuration; all configurations share the same Koch CPS gas-phase carbon performance.
DuraKleen vs DuraPure — choosing your gas-phase platform
Koch produces two extended-surface 12″-deep carbon filter platforms. They serve different gas-phase use cases:
- DuraKleen (this product family): CPS bicomponent fiber media with 500 gsm 20x50 mesh carbon. Initial resistance 0.24″ w.g. @ 500 FPM. Engineered for sub-ppm AMC removal and polishing filtration. Koch's breakthrough analysis shows DuraKleen outperforming honeycomb carbon designs at low concentration levels.
- DuraPure Standard Capacity and DuraPure High Capacity: Honeycomb carbon cells with premium coconut shell granular carbon. 18–26 lbs carbon load per filter, 0.34–0.74″ w.g. initial resistance. Engineered for high-volume gas-phase capacity at moderate contaminant concentrations — specified for airports, industrial facilities, chemical plants, office buildings.
For lower-depth gas-phase filtration in 1″/2″/4″ pleated panel form factors, see the Koch OdorKleen ES, OdorKleen 250, OdorKleen 200/M13, and OdorKleen 600.
Sizing and ordering notes
- Sizes are nominal. Per Koch PB-1202, actual dimensions are slightly less: 24x24x12 nominal = 23.38″ x 23.38″ x 11.50″ actual; same 1/2″-1″ pattern across sizes.
- 12″ deep filters require deep filter racks. Verify your filter housing accommodates 12″ depth before ordering.
- Header configuration is housing-specific. This product is the Single Header configuration. If your housing requires a different header type, see the Choosing your DuraKleen configuration section above for cross-links to the other configurations.
- "Call for Quote" sizes: Some configuration/size combinations are special-order only. Request a quote for these or for facility-scale orders.
- Specialty media: DuraKleen is also available with specialized media for amines and acid gases. Request a quote with your target contaminant.
- Replacement schedule: Drive by pressure drop curve and breakthrough monitoring. For sub-ppm AMC applications, monitor downstream concentration directly — pressure drop alone may not signal breakthrough at trace contaminant levels.
- Carbon disposal: Spent CPS media may have specific disposal requirements depending on captured contaminants. Follow your local hazardous waste regulations.

A filtration company, not a warehouse reseller
Family-founded in 2006, built on the back of 50 years of HVAC filtration experience. Two decades selling filters online — and we only stock what we'd put our own name behind.
Trusted manufacturers only
Every filter we sell comes from a manufacturer we've vetted — AAF Flanders, Koch, NaturalAire, PrimeShield, and a short list of others.
No marketplace-style third-party sellers swapping inventory. No overseas knockoffs relabeled with a domestic-sounding name.
Two decades online
RememberTheFilter.com has been selling HVAC filters online since 2006 — family-founded, founder-operated, and still run by the people who started it.

What customers say about Koch DuraKleen Single Header MERV 8 (CPS Carbon V-Cell Gas-Phase Filter)
Answers to the questions we get every day
From sizing and MERV ratings to bulk orders and subscriptions — here's what customers ask before they buy. For product-specific specs, check the description above.
How do I know what size filter I need?
The size is printed on the edge of your current filter. Read the nominal size — for example, 16x25x1 — and order that size. The actual filter will measure about 1/2″ less than the nominal size on each dimension. That's industry standard and is how the filter slides into the slot without binding.
If the printed size is worn off, measure the filter slot itself — not the old filter — and round up to the nearest standard size. Our How to Measure guide walks through it step by step.
What if the filter doesn't fit my system?
You're covered by our Filter Fit Guarantee. If the filter doesn't fit your system as expected, contact us within 30 days and we'll make it right — including custom-sized replacements for non-standard slots. One flat $30 fee covers exchanges under the guarantee, and we'll walk through sizing with you so the replacement fits the first time.
Do you offer custom filter sizes?
Custom filters are made to specification down to 1/8″ precision — useful for older homes, clinical spaces, schools, and commercial AHUs with non-standard slot dimensions. Available in every MERV rating from 1–4 through 13, plus washable and extended-surface options.
If you don't see your size listed in our standard lineup, contact us or request a quote and we'll confirm what's available in the media and efficiency you need.
What is a MERV rating and which one do I need?
MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) is the industry-standard scale for how effectively a filter captures airborne particles. Higher numbers capture smaller particles. Most homes do well on MERV 8 to MERV 11. MERV 13 is the step up for pets, allergies, or wildfire smoke exposure — if your HVAC system supports it.
The MERV Rating Explained guide has the full breakdown, or take the 60-second MERV quiz for a personalized recommendation.
Will a higher MERV filter hurt my HVAC system?
Not when it's matched properly. Higher MERV filters do add airflow resistance, but most modern furnaces and air handlers handle MERV 11 comfortably, and many support MERV 13 — especially systems with 4″ or deeper media cabinets. The filter slot depth matters as much as the MERV rating.
Older systems (pre-2000) or tight 1″ slots may struggle with MERV 13. If airflow feels weak from vents, the blower sounds strained, or the coil ices up, step back down to MERV 10 or MERV 11. When in doubt, upgrade in steps — MERV 8 → 11 → 13 — and monitor for a cycle before moving up again.
What's the difference between MERV, MPR, and FPR ratings?
MERV is the universal industry standard, published through ASHRAE 52.2 testing and used by HVAC professionals worldwide. MPR (Micro-Particle Rating) is 3M's internal scale for their Filtrete line. FPR (Filter Performance Rating) is Home Depot's proprietary rating for filters sold in their stores.
MPR and FPR roughly correlate to MERV within their own brand lineups, but they aren't directly comparable across retailers. A Filtrete MPR 1900 is roughly MERV 13; an FPR 10 is also roughly MERV 13. Always check the MERV rating for an apples-to-apples comparison.
What is pleated filter media made out of?
Pleated filter media is a synthetic nonwoven fabric — most often polyester, sometimes a cotton-polyester blend — pleated over a supporting frame of galvanized wire or paperboard. The pleats add surface area, and the frame holds them open so the media keeps its shape under airflow.
How fast will my filter ship?
Standard stocked filters ship within 1–2 business days from the warehouse nearest to your shipping address. Most orders arrive in 2–5 business days via UPS or FedEx. Custom-sized filters are made to order and have their own production lead time listed in the product description.
Current production and shipping timelines are always live on our production schedule page.
Do you ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or PO boxes?
We ship to Alaska and Hawaii — shipping is calculated at checkout based on the address. Free shipping on orders $50+ applies to the lower 48 contiguous states only; AK and HI orders ship at carrier rates.
PO boxes cannot be accepted. Filter boxes are physically oversized and our carriers (UPS and FedEx) won't deliver to PO boxes at this size. You'll need a street address, business address, or pickup location for delivery.
Can I return or exchange a filter I don't need?
Unopened stocked filters can be returned within 30 days under our refund policy. Custom-sized filters are made to your specification and aren't returnable unless they arrived damaged or incorrectly sized from us.
If a filter arrives damaged or doesn't match what was ordered, submit a claim and we'll replace it — no back-and-forth.
How does the subscribe & save option work?
Most filters ship on recurring delivery at a 10% discount — cadences from every month through every 6 months, plus an annual option at 5% off. Pick the interval that matches your change-out schedule on the product page, and we'll auto-ship on time with no reordering required.
You're only charged when an order ships, and the discount applies to every delivery — not just the first one.
Can I pause, skip, or change my subscription?
Yes, any time. Pause, skip a delivery, change the cadence, swap the filter, update the shipping address, or cancel entirely — all from your account dashboard. No emails required, no hold times, no cancellation fees. See our subscription policy for the full details.
Do you offer bulk pricing for schools, clinics, or property managers?
Yes — bulk and volume pricing is available for facilities, multifamily properties, fleets, and any organization ordering in standing rotation. We work with schools, clinics, property management companies, government agencies, and industrial facilities on recurring orders with negotiated pricing.
Request a quote with your filter specs and estimated annual volume, or visit our Commercial Services page to see the full commercial lineup.
Are you set up for tax-exempt and government purchases?
Yes. We work with schools, government agencies, non-profits, and resale-exempt buyers regularly. Submit your certificate through our tax-exempt purchases page and we'll set up your account so future orders ship tax-free with no repeated paperwork. Purchase orders and government procurement are supported for established accounts.
Are these genuine name-brand filters?
Yes. Every filter we stock comes from a manufacturer we've vetted — AAF Flanders, Koch, NaturalAire, PrimeShield, and a short list of others. We don't operate as a marketplace, so there's no third-party seller swapping inventory behind the listing.
If you've had issues with counterfeit or low-quality filters from other sellers, that's one of the reasons customers switch to us. Real brands, same specs every time, same source every time.
