Standard is MERV 8 (dust, lint, pollen, mold spores). Microparticle is MERV 10 and adds pet dander and particles down to 1 micron. Ultra is MERV 13 and adds smoke, smog and fine particulate.
MERV 8 for most homes and any system. MERV 10 if you have pets or seasonal allergies. MERV 13 when the problem is smoke, wildfire season, or a household member with asthma. If you're unsure, start at MERV 8 — it's the level most HVAC installers spec, and you can step up at the next changeout.
Usually, yes — NaturalAire MERV 13 is designed as a 1″ residential filter and most systems built in the last 20 years handle it. Higher efficiency does mean more airflow resistance, so on an older or undersized blower, or if you notice weaker airflow at the registers, drop to MERV 10 or move to a deep-pleat 4″–5″ media, which has far more surface area. Change it on schedule; a loaded MERV 13 restricts more than a fresh one.
AAF rates every NaturalAire level for 90 days. Check it monthly and change it sooner if it looks grey and loaded — pets, construction dust, wildfire smoke and a house that runs the fan continuously all shorten the interval. The free RTF app for iPhone will remind you.

Almost certainly. We stock 305 NaturalAire products across every standard nominal size, and if yours isn't one of them, any of the three levels can be built to your exact dimensions in ⅛″ increments. Measure the old filter's frame edge — the printed size is nominal; the actual filter runs about ¼″–½″ smaller so it slides into the slot.
