App Privacy Policy

Effective August 18, 2026

This policy describes how the Remember the Filter iOS app handles information. It applies to the app only. (Purchases you make on rememberthefilter.com are covered by our main store privacy policy.)

The short version: the app has no accounts and no logins, shows no ads, and includes no analytics or third-party tracking. Everything you enter stays on your device. The only information that ever leaves your device is a ZIP code you choose to enter, used to show your local air quality.

No account, no sign-in

You can use every feature without creating an account or providing your name, email, or phone number. We don’t have a user database, because there are no user accounts.

What stays on your device

Your filters, equipment, properties, reminder schedules, notes, service photos, and change history are stored locally on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device storage. We do not upload, sync, or have any access to this information.

Air quality (the one thing that leaves your device)

If you use the air-quality feature, you enter a ZIP code. To show your local conditions, that ZIP is:

  • sent to a public postal-code lookup (zippopotam.us) to convert it into approximate coordinates, and
  • sent to our air-quality service, which returns the US EPA Air Quality Index and pollen levels sourced from Google’s Air Quality and Pollen APIs.

This resolves to a coarse (roughly city-level) location. It is not linked to your identity, is not used to advertise to or track you, and the app never requests or uses your device’s GPS location — only the ZIP you type. If you don’t use the air-quality feature, nothing leaves your device.

Camera

The camera is used only on your device — to scan a filter’s label or barcode, read an equipment nameplate using Apple’s on-device text recognition, and take optional service photos you choose to save. No image or scanned text is uploaded anywhere.

Backups you create

If you export a backup, the app writes a file containing your own data to a destination you choose through the iOS share sheet (for example, Files or iCloud Drive). Nothing is uploaded to us, and we never see it.

Reordering filters

When you tap Shop or Reorder, the app opens rememberthefilter.com in an in-app browser so you can view and buy filters. Any purchase you make there is handled by our store and its payment processor under the store’s privacy policy. The app itself has no in-app purchases and no in-app catalog.

No tracking, no ads, no analytics

The app contains no advertising, no analytics SDKs, and no third-party tracking software. We do not sell or share personal information, because we don’t collect it.

Children

Remember the Filter is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information, we’ll update this page and its effective date.
