Product details

Koch Maxi-Grid Slip-On Service Rolls are continuous rolls of sleeve filter media that slip over a replaceable internal steel wire frame, creating a complete filter on demand. Designed for fan coil units, package terminal air conditioners (PTAC units), hotel HVAC, commercial buildings, and hospital air handlers — any application where the filter wire stays in place and only the media gets replaced.

Why slip-on sleeves exist (and why they save money)

Most disposable filters are throwaway frame-and-media units — you buy a complete panel, install it, then replace the entire panel (frame and media together) at end of life. Slip-on sleeves split that economics: the 9-gauge rust-resistant steel wire frame stays in service for years, and only the polyester media sleeve gets replaced. For high-volume applications — a hotel with hundreds of PTAC units, or a hospital with dozens of fan coil units — the per-changeout cost drops substantially compared to disposable framed filters.

Koch positions this line as an economical replacement for fiberglass throwaway filters in applications where the wire support frame is already in place or can be installed once. Cut the sleeve to length from the roll, slip it over the wire, install in the unit. When it loads up, pull the wire, slip off the old sleeve, slip on a new one from the roll.

Three sleeve types — choosing between SS, DL, and DL200

Koch offers three sleeve constructions on this product. All three carry the same MERV 5 efficiency rating per ASHRAE Test Standard 52.2 and serve the same applications — the differences are in media density, dust holding capacity, and roll length:

  • Type SS (Polyester + Spunbonded): Single-layer polyester face with a spunbonded backing for support. Initial pressure drop 0.30″ w.g. at 400 FPM, dust holding capacity 105 grams at 1.5″ w.g. The economical choice for general-purpose PTAC and fan coil applications. 135-foot rolls, 14 width options.
  • Type DL (Dual-Layered Polyester): Two layers of polyester for higher dust holding capacity and longer service life. Initial pressure drop 0.34″ w.g. at 400 FPM. Specify Type DL when the application demands longer changeout intervals, when the airstream carries heavier dust loading, or when the marginal cost of the upgraded media is worth fewer changeouts. 135-foot rolls, 12 width options.
  • Type DL200 (Dual-Layered Polyester, 90-foot Rolls): Same dual-layered polyester construction as Type DL but in 90-foot rolls (vs. 135-foot). 9 width options (8″ through 16″). The right pick when you need DL performance but a smaller roll volume per facility — useful for smaller properties, lower-volume changeout cycles, or storage-constrained installations.

Sizing the sleeve to your wire frame

Each sleeve is identified by two dimensions:

  • Type: SS, DL, or DL200 (see comparison above)
  • Width: Match to the wire frame width. Available widths range from 7″ through 30″ on the SS line, 7″ through 30″ on the DL line, and 8″ through 16″ on the DL200 line. Roll length is 135 feet for SS and DL, or 90 feet for DL200. You cut the sleeve to the length you need from the roll — the roll feeds dozens to hundreds of changeouts per facility depending on filter size.

Note on availability: Not every width is available on every Type. The variant dropdown only shows real-world available combinations — if you don’t see your width on a particular Type, that combination isn’t cataloged. Try the other Type or request a quote for unusual sizes.

Design and construction

  • Form factor: Continuous roll of sleeve media (135′ or 90′) — cut to length on site
  • Media: Polyester (Type SS) or dual-layered polyester (Type DL / DL200)
  • Compatible frame: 9-gauge rust-resistant steel wire (Koch sells these separately, or compatible third-party frames work)
  • Tackifier: No tackifier (sleeve media)
  • Efficiency rating: MERV 5 per ASHRAE Test Standard 52.2
  • Initial pressure drop: 0.30″ w.g. at 400 FPM (Type SS); 0.34″ w.g. at 400 FPM (Type DL / DL200)
  • Dust holding capacity: 105 grams at 1.5″ w.g. (Type SS)
  • Reference bulletins: Koch K-902 and K-892-6
  • Sold by the roll. One roll per order; multiple rolls can be ordered as separate quantities.

Where slip-on sleeves are typically deployed

  • Hotel and motel PTAC units — the classic high-volume application; one roll services dozens of rooms across multiple changeouts
  • Fan coil units in commercial buildings, condos, and apartments
  • Hospital patient room AC units and clinical fan coil installations
  • Mini-split and ductless A/C indoor units with sleeve-compatible filter racks
  • Make-up air units and small commercial AHUs
  • Replacement for fiberglass throwaway filters in any application where the wire frame can stay in place

What MERV 5 captures

MERV 5 is a basic prefilter and equipment-protection efficiency — captures larger airborne dust, lint, and pollen. Suitable for protecting blowers, coils, and downstream filters from coarse particles in applications where a high-efficiency final filter isn’t required. Not appropriate as a final filter for healthcare clean spaces, high-IAQ applications, or anywhere MERV 8+ is specified.

If your application requires higher efficiency, see Koch’s standard Maxi-Grid Panel filters (MG200 through MG550, MERV 7 through MERV 11) or the Multi-Pleat line for pleated alternatives.

Sizing and ordering notes

  • Confirm your wire frame width before ordering. Sleeve width must match the frame width — ordering a 12″ sleeve for a 14″ frame leaves the filter undersized and creates bypass.
  • Wire frames sold separately. If you need replaceable wire frames in addition to the sleeve media, contact us for the matching Koch frame SKUs.
  • Cut to length on site. Each roll feeds many filter changeouts; the media is cut to the length needed for each filter at install time.
  • Need a non-cataloged width or roll length? Request a quote for unusual sizes or facility-scale orders.

Why RememberTheFilter.com

A filtration company, not a warehouse reseller

Family-founded in 2006, built on the back of 50 years of HVAC filtration experience. Two decades selling filters online — and we only stock what we'd put our own name behind.

Trusted manufacturers only

Every filter we sell comes from a manufacturer we've vetted — AAF Flanders, Koch, NaturalAire, PrimeShield, and a short list of others.

No marketplace-style third-party sellers swapping inventory. No overseas knockoffs relabeled with a domestic-sounding name.

Two decades online

RememberTheFilter.com has been selling HVAC filters online since 2006 — family-founded, founder-operated, and still run by the people who started it.

Schools, clinics, property managers, and homeowners have been ordering from us for years — some of them since before Amazon even sold filters.

Nationwide shipping network

Our distribution network ships from multiple U.S. locations — so most orders arrive faster than coast-to-coast routing would suggest.

Customer service is based in Lake Stevens, Washington — U.S.-based, reachable by phone, text, or email.

Commercial & Bulk Orders

Buying this filter for a property, fleet, or facility?

Schools, clinics, property management, multifamily, and government facilities order from us in standing rotation. Volume pricing, tax-exempt setup, and scheduled delivery available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we get every day

From sizing and MERV ratings to bulk orders and subscriptions — here's what customers ask before they buy. For product-specific specs, check the description above.

Sizing & fit
How do I know what size filter I need?

The size is printed on the edge of your current filter. Read the nominal size — for example, 16x25x1 — and order that size. The actual filter will measure about 1/2″ less than the nominal size on each dimension. That's industry standard and is how the filter slides into the slot without binding.

If the printed size is worn off, measure the filter slot itself — not the old filter — and round up to the nearest standard size. Our How to Measure guide walks through it step by step.

What if the filter doesn't fit my system?

You're covered by our Filter Fit Guarantee. If the filter doesn't fit your system as expected, contact us within 30 days and we'll make it right — including custom-sized replacements for non-standard slots. One flat $30 fee covers exchanges under the guarantee, and we'll walk through sizing with you so the replacement fits the first time.

Do you offer custom filter sizes?

Custom filters are made to specification down to 1/8″ precision — useful for older homes, clinical spaces, schools, and commercial AHUs with non-standard slot dimensions. Available in every MERV rating from 1–4 through 13, plus washable and extended-surface options.

If you don't see your size listed in our standard lineup, contact us or request a quote and we'll confirm what's available in the media and efficiency you need.

MERV & performance
What is a MERV rating and which one do I need?

MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) is the industry-standard scale for how effectively a filter captures airborne particles. Higher numbers capture smaller particles. Most homes do well on MERV 8 to MERV 11. MERV 13 is the step up for pets, allergies, or wildfire smoke exposure — if your HVAC system supports it.

The MERV Rating Explained guide has the full breakdown, or take the 60-second MERV quiz for a personalized recommendation.

Will a higher MERV filter hurt my HVAC system?

Not when it's matched properly. Higher MERV filters do add airflow resistance, but most modern furnaces and air handlers handle MERV 11 comfortably, and many support MERV 13 — especially systems with 4″ or deeper media cabinets. The filter slot depth matters as much as the MERV rating.

Older systems (pre-2000) or tight 1″ slots may struggle with MERV 13. If airflow feels weak from vents, the blower sounds strained, or the coil ices up, step back down to MERV 10 or MERV 11. When in doubt, upgrade in steps — MERV 8 → 11 → 13 — and monitor for a cycle before moving up again.

What's the difference between MERV, MPR, and FPR ratings?

MERV is the universal industry standard, published through ASHRAE 52.2 testing and used by HVAC professionals worldwide. MPR (Micro-Particle Rating) is 3M's internal scale for their Filtrete line. FPR (Filter Performance Rating) is Home Depot's proprietary rating for filters sold in their stores.

MPR and FPR roughly correlate to MERV within their own brand lineups, but they aren't directly comparable across retailers. A Filtrete MPR 1900 is roughly MERV 13; an FPR 10 is also roughly MERV 13. Always check the MERV rating for an apples-to-apples comparison.

What is pleated filter media made out of?

Pleated filter media is a synthetic nonwoven fabric — most often polyester, sometimes a cotton-polyester blend — pleated over a supporting frame of galvanized wire or paperboard. The pleats add surface area, and the frame holds them open so the media keeps its shape under airflow.

Shipping & delivery
How fast will my filter ship?

Standard stocked filters ship within 1–2 business days from the warehouse nearest to your shipping address. Most orders arrive in 2–5 business days via UPS or FedEx. Custom-sized filters are made to order and have their own production lead time listed in the product description.

Current production and shipping timelines are always live on our production schedule page.

Do you ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or PO boxes?

We ship to Alaska and Hawaii — shipping is calculated at checkout based on the address. Free shipping on orders $50+ applies to the lower 48 contiguous states only; AK and HI orders ship at carrier rates.

PO boxes cannot be accepted. Filter boxes are physically oversized and our carriers (UPS and FedEx) won't deliver to PO boxes at this size. You'll need a street address, business address, or pickup location for delivery.

Orders, returns & subscriptions
Can I return or exchange a filter I don't need?

Unopened stocked filters can be returned within 30 days under our refund policy. Custom-sized filters are made to your specification and aren't returnable unless they arrived damaged or incorrectly sized from us.

If a filter arrives damaged or doesn't match what was ordered, submit a claim and we'll replace it — no back-and-forth.

How does the subscribe & save option work?

Most filters ship on recurring delivery at a 10% discount — cadences from every month through every 6 months, plus an annual option at 5% off. Pick the interval that matches your change-out schedule on the product page, and we'll auto-ship on time with no reordering required.

You're only charged when an order ships, and the discount applies to every delivery — not just the first one.

Can I pause, skip, or change my subscription?

Yes, any time. Pause, skip a delivery, change the cadence, swap the filter, update the shipping address, or cancel entirely — all from your account dashboard. No emails required, no hold times, no cancellation fees. See our subscription policy for the full details.

Bulk, commercial & tax-exempt
Do you offer bulk pricing for schools, clinics, or property managers?

Yes — bulk and volume pricing is available for facilities, multifamily properties, fleets, and any organization ordering in standing rotation. We work with schools, clinics, property management companies, government agencies, and industrial facilities on recurring orders with negotiated pricing.

Request a quote with your filter specs and estimated annual volume, or visit our Commercial Services page to see the full commercial lineup.

Are you set up for tax-exempt and government purchases?

Yes. We work with schools, government agencies, non-profits, and resale-exempt buyers regularly. Submit your certificate through our tax-exempt purchases page and we'll set up your account so future orders ship tax-free with no repeated paperwork. Purchase orders and government procurement are supported for established accounts.

About RememberTheFilter.com
Are these genuine name-brand filters?

Yes. Every filter we stock comes from a manufacturer we've vetted — AAF Flanders, Koch, NaturalAire, PrimeShield, and a short list of others. We don't operate as a marketplace, so there's no third-party seller swapping inventory behind the listing.

If you've had issues with counterfeit or low-quality filters from other sellers, that's one of the reasons customers switch to us. Real brands, same specs every time, same source every time.
