Koch Duo-Cube 1-Ply MERV 6 Cube Filters are extended-surface synthetic cube filters designed for general HVAC final-stage filtration in commercial buildings, industrial systems, and any application that uses cube-style filter baskets or holding frames. The 1-Ply construction is the economical entry point in the Duo-Cube line — single-density polyester media with scrim backing, tuned for low-resistance airflow and reliable equipment protection.
What a cube filter is (and where it goes)
Cube filters are extended-surface filters — the media is folded or pleated into a deep three-dimensional cube that increases the filter’s effective surface area dramatically compared to a flat panel filter of the same face dimensions. A 24x24x8 cube has the same face footprint as a 24x24x8 panel, but several times more media area packed into that 8″ depth. This means longer service life, lower pressure drop at equivalent capture, and better dust holding capacity.
Cube filters drop into side-load cube baskets, top-load racks, or front-load holding frames commonly found in commercial AHUs, packaged rooftop units, and larger industrial air handlers. They’re typically a final filter stage behind a panel prefilter, capturing what makes it past the prefilter while the deep pleated geometry gives extended service life.
Standard vs. Self-Seal — choosing the right construction
This product offers two construction tiers of the same 1-Ply MERV 6 media, differentiated by how the filter holds itself in the rack:
-
Standard Duo-Cube (poly media, no wire frame): Filter media without an integral wire frame. Designed for use in existing cube-type baskets — the basket itself provides the support structure; the filter just drops in. The right pick when your equipment is already configured for basket-style filters and you don’t need the filter to be self-supporting. Lowest cost option.
-
Self-Seal Duo-Cube (poly media with integral wire frame): The same poly media with an internal steel wire support built into the filter. The wire frame creates a self-sealing design that fits standard holding frames without clips or fasteners — the filter expands against the frame perimeter and seals the gap on its own. Eliminates air bypass that can happen when a filter shifts in the rack. The right pick for installations where the filter rack is a standard holding frame (rather than a basket), or where bypass elimination is a design priority.
Both constructions use identical media and carry identical MERV 6 efficiency. The choice comes down to the rack you’re installing into and whether you need the filter to be self-supporting.

When the 1-Ply Duo-Cube is specified
-
General commercial HVAC final filtration — office buildings, schools, retail, hospitality where MERV 6 meets the spec
-
Equipment protection in air handlers, packaged rooftops, and larger industrial AHUs
-
Prefilter stages ahead of higher-MERV final filters in multi-stage systems — the deep cube geometry extends the prefilter’s service life dramatically over a flat panel prefilter
-
High-airflow applications where pressure drop is the limiting factor and the system can’t support a higher-MERV restriction
-
Cost-sensitive applications where 1-Ply MERV 6 capture meets the design requirement and a higher MERV would over-spec the system
What MERV 6 captures
MERV 6 captures larger airborne dust, lint, pollen, and most household and construction-grade dust. A reliable equipment-protection and basic-filtration efficiency. Not appropriate as a final filter for healthcare clean spaces, high-IAQ commercial applications, or anywhere MERV 8+ is specified. For higher-efficiency cube filtration, see Koch’s 2-Ply (MERV 7), 3-Ply (MERV 8), or 4-Ply (MERV 8 with maximum performance) Duo-Cube variants — same cube form factor, same applications, higher capture efficiency.
Sizing and ordering notes
-
Specify both face dimensions and depth. Cube filters are sized as Width x Height x Depth (e.g., 24x24x8). Match all three dimensions to your filter rack — cube filters cannot be cut or trimmed in the field.
-
Confirm rack type before choosing construction. Standard (no wire) only works in equipment with cube-type baskets. Self-Seal (with wire) works in standard holding frames without clips.
-
Sold by the case. Variant price is for the full case. Most depths ship 10 per case; deepest 20″ cubes ship 5 per case. Case quantities are listed in each variant.
-
"Call for Quote" sizes: Some sizes are catalog items but require direct quoting due to lower order volume or build-to-order production. These appear unavailable in the dropdown — request a quote for these sizes or for facility-scale orders.

Need higher efficiency? The Duo-Cube line scales up through 2-Ply (MERV 7), 3-Ply (MERV 8), and 4-Ply (highest MERV 8). Same form factor, higher capture.
