This 20″ × 24″ × 4″ Koch MicroMAX PL4S filter (part number 120-634-2024) delivers MERV 13 filtration in a 4-inch-deep extended-surface minipleat design with 100% synthetic media and a plastic frame.
The PL4S is the mid-depth, all-synthetic option in the MicroMAX line. It splits the difference between the slim 2″ PL2S and the deeper 6″ PL6, delivering meaningfully greater dust-holding capacity than the 2″ format while remaining lightweight and compact. The 100% synthetic media holds up where micro fiberglass paper historically struggles — high humidity, frequent wet/dry cycles, marine and coastal air, and aggressive face velocities — and the media pack is bonded to the entire periphery of the plastic frame to eliminate bypass.
When MicroMAX PL4S is specified
-
4-inch filter slots — the standard depth for many commercial AHUs and air handlers
-
High-moisture environments — coastal, marine, humid industrial; synthetic media doesn’t shed or weaken the way glass-fiber paper can
-
High-velocity HVAC — rigid extended-surface construction in synthetic media maintains pleat geometry under turbulent airflow
-
Variable-air-volume (VAV) systems — reliable performance through airflow swings
-
Longer service life than 2″ alternatives — 4″ depth doubles dust-holding capacity vs the PL2S, extending changeout intervals
-
Hospitals, pharmaceutical, and lab facilities — proven media reliability in critical IAQ environments

Captures bacteria, smoke, viruses, and most respiratory droplets. Specified in healthcare, clinics, labs, and high-IAQ commercial spaces.
PL4S vs. PL2S vs. PL6: which to choose
All three are MicroMAX-line plastic-frame minipleat filters, distinguished primarily by depth and media type. The PL2S (2″, synthetic) is built for shallow filter slots. The PL4S (4″, synthetic) doubles the depth for greater dust-holding capacity while keeping the synthetic-media advantage — the right pick for standard 4″ slots in moisture-prone or high-velocity environments. The PL6 (6″, micro fiberglass) is the longest-life option in this family for standard commercial environments where moisture isn’t a primary concern. Match depth to your housing first; choose synthetic (PL2S/PL4S) over fiberglass (PL6) when humidity, marine air, or high airflow velocity are part of the picture.
PL4S vs. standard MicroMAX (4″): synthetic vs. microfiberglass
Both filters share the same 4″ depth and minipleat design, but they target different environments. The standard MicroMAX (L2-17 / L2-18) uses dual-density micro fiberglass paper — the proven workhorse for standard commercial HVAC and the first choice for hospitals and labs running dry, conditioned air. The PL4S switches to 100% synthetic media for installations where moisture, condensation, or aggressive face velocities can compromise glass-fiber media. If your facility sees humidity spikes, coastal air, marine exposure, or process-related moisture loads, the synthetic media is the right tool.
Important sizing and ordering notes
-
Sizes listed are nominal. Actual dimensions are slightly under nominal — standard for the industry; the filter slides into a nominal-sized slot without binding.
-
Special sizes are not available. The MicroMAX PL4S ships only in the standard sizes listed.
-
Full carton quantities only. Per Koch’s shipping policy, MicroMAX PL4S ships in full carton quantities for safe transit.
-
Pleats install in either direction. Width and height are interchangeable on the media pack.
Compatibility
The MicroMAX PL4S drops into standard 4″-deep filter slots and is interchangeable with most competitive 4-inch box-style minipleat filters in the same nominal size. It serves as a direct upgrade for facilities currently running 4″ pleated panel filters or replacing damaged microfiberglass-media filters in moisture-prone applications.
