MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) is the industry-standard scale for how effectively a filter captures airborne particles. A higher MERV captures smaller particles — but only if your HVAC system can support the increased airflow resistance. Always check your equipment's maximum supported MERV before upgrading.

Not Sure of Your Filter Size?

Pull your current filter and check the printed size on the frame (e.g., 16x25x1) — that's the nominal size, and the number you'll order by. If there's no printed size, measure the filter slot in your furnace, air handler, or return grille to Length × Width × Depth and round up to the nearest whole inch. Actual physical size is typically ¼″–½″ smaller than nominal so the filter slides in and out easily.
