HEPA & ULPA Filtration
HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters are the highest-grade air filters available—required to capture at least 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. They're not standard HVAC filters; they're purpose-built for environments where the air has to be genuinely clean: hospitals, cleanrooms, pharmaceutical manufacturing, semiconductor fabrication, and nuclear facilities.
HEPA vs. MERV 13
A common question: why not just use MERV 13 everywhere? MERV 13 captures roughly 85% of particles down to 0.3 microns. HEPA captures 99.97%. For a home with good HVAC, MERV 13 is excellent. For a hospital operating room, pharmaceutical clean room, or semiconductor fab, MERV 13 isn't close to adequate—you need HEPA.
Typical Applications
-
Healthcare — operating rooms, isolation rooms, pharmacy compounding areas
-
Cleanrooms — ISO Class 5–8 environments
-
Pharmaceutical & biotech — sterile fill-finish, research labs
-
Semiconductor & electronics — fab environments where sub-micron particles destroy yield
-
Nuclear & aerospace — radioactive particulate containment
ULPA Filters
ULPA (Ultra-Low Particulate Air) filters go further—99.999% efficiency at 0.12 microns. Used in ISO Class 1–4 cleanrooms and the most demanding sub-micron control environments.
