Filtrete 1" pleated air filter with MPR 1500 (≈MERV 12). Higher capture efficiency for fine particles including dust, smoke, smog, pet dander, mold, bacteria, and viruses. Made by 3M.

What MPR 1500 actually means. MPR 1500 is roughly equivalent to MERV 12. Captures the same range as MPR 1000 plus finer particles — smoke, smog, and a higher percentage of bacteria and virus-carrying particles. Verify your HVAC system's static pressure tolerance before stepping up from a lower MERV.

Who it's for. Households and buildings with allergy or air-quality concerns, including homes with pets, smokers nearby, or sensitivity to fine particles.

When to replace. Every 90 days under typical conditions; every 30–60 days in homes with pets or higher dust loads. Inspect monthly — if light no longer passes through the pleats, it's time to change.

Sold in cases of 4. Order quantity must be a multiple of 4. Cases ship in original 3M packaging.

About this product line. RememberTheFilter carries genuine 3M-manufactured Filtrete filters in original packaging — not third-party knockoffs or relabeled imports. Ships from our distribution network, typically next business day.

Filter Media

Electrostatically-charged polypropylene pleated media engineered by 3M. Higher fiber density than MPR 1000 captures a greater percentage of fine particles including smoke, smog, and bacteria-carrying particles.

Filter Support Grid

No metal grid. The pleat geometry and beverage-board frame provide structural rigidity throughout the service life of the filter.

Frame

Beverage-board frame bonded to the media on all sides for dimensional stability. Frame is moisture-resistant within typical residential and light commercial HVAC duty cycles.

Removes

MPR 1500 (≈MERV 12) captures the same range as MPR 1000 plus a higher percentage of fine particles — smoke, smog, microscopic allergens, and bacteria/virus-carrying particles. Verify HVAC system static pressure tolerance before stepping up from a lower MERV.

Life

Recommended 90 day changeout. Replace every 30–60 days in homes with pets or higher dust loads.

A better place to buy Filtrete than the marketplace giants

We've sold residential and commercial HVAC filters online since 2006. Filtrete is one of the most counterfeited filter brands on the internet — here's how we make sure you get the real thing, in the size you need, in the case quantity you actually want.

Genuine Filtrete air filter installed in HVAC return

Genuine 3M-manufactured Filtrete

Every Filtrete filter we ship is made by 3M, in original 3M packaging — direct from our authorized distribution channel. No third-party sellers swapping inventory mid-fulfillment. No "Filtrete-style" lookalikes from overseas factories.

If you've been burned by a marketplace listing that looked right but felt wrong, you'll notice the difference here.

Real case quantities, real prices

Filtrete is sold by the case at the manufacturer level — usually 4 filters per case. We pass that case structure straight through to checkout instead of repackaging into single units at marked-up "convenience" pricing.

No subscription lock-ins. No checkout-time price hikes. The price you see on the page is the price you pay.

Filter people, not search algorithms

Need help picking the right MPR? Comparing Filtrete to a 4″ deep-bed media filter? Sizing a non-standard return? You'll talk to a real person at our shop in Lake Stevens, Washington — not a chatbot trained to keep you on the page.

Family-founded in 2006. 50+ years of HVAC filtration experience behind the recommendations.

Filtrete Rating Guide

What does the MPR number mean?

MPR is 3M's proprietary rating system — Microparticle Performance Rating. Higher numbers capture finer particles, but also restrict airflow more.

Most residential HVAC systems are designed for MERV 8–11 (MPR 700–1000). MERV 13 (MPR 1900) increases static pressure — verify your blower can handle it before stepping up.

Filtrete FAQ

Filtrete questions, answered

From counterfeits and MPR ratings to case quantities and bulk orders — here's what Filtrete buyers ask before they hit add-to-cart.

Genuine Filtrete & sourcing
How do I know this is genuine Filtrete and not a counterfeit?

Every Filtrete filter we ship is 3M-manufactured and arrives in original 3M packaging — sealed cases, untampered, identical to what you'd get if you bought directly from Filtrete. We source through our authorized distribution channel, which means our supply chain is auditable end-to-end.

RememberTheFilter.com isn't a marketplace. We don't allow third-party sellers, and we don't list inventory we haven't verified. If you've had a bad experience with a Filtrete listing on Amazon or a marketplace site, that's specifically why we're built differently.

Why are Filtrete prices on Amazon sometimes lower? Are those real?

A few things go on with Amazon Filtrete pricing. Authorized 3M listings on Amazon are real, but third-party sellers in the same listing pool sometimes ship counterfeits, expired stock, or units that were repackaged after returns. The "buy box" rotates, so the seller you actually buy from isn't always the seller you think you're buying from.

When the price seems too low to be real, it usually isn't. Check the seller name at checkout, not the listing photo. Or skip the marketplace gamble entirely and buy from a specialty retailer that owns its supply chain.

Will my Filtrete arrive in original 3M packaging?

Yes. Cases ship in the original 3M case packaging, with the original retail-pack inserts intact. We don't break cases to repackage as singles, we don't apply our own branding over 3M's, and we don't pull units from cases for "convenience packs." What 3M ships from the factory is what you get on your doorstep.

Filtrete MPR & performance
What does the MPR number on a Filtrete filter mean?

MPR stands for Microparticle Performance Rating — 3M's proprietary scale for the Filtrete line. It measures how well a filter captures particles between 0.3 and 1 micron (the smallest end of the airborne particle range). Higher MPR numbers capture finer particles.

3M uses MPR instead of MERV in marketing because MPR is more flattering to electrostatically-charged media in lab testing. Both ratings are real, both are useful, and the rating strip on this page maps MPR to its rough MERV equivalent so you can cross-reference with HVAC system specs.

How does MPR compare to MERV and FPR?

MERV is the universal industry standard, published through ASHRAE 52.2 testing and used by HVAC professionals worldwide. MPR is 3M's proprietary scale for Filtrete. FPR (Filter Performance Rating) is Home Depot's proprietary rating for filters sold in their stores.

Rough cross-reference: Filtrete MPR 300 ≈ MERV 5, MPR 700 = MERV 8, MPR 1000 ≈ MERV 11, MPR 1500/1550 ≈ MERV 12, MPR 1900 ≈ MERV 13. FPR 5 ≈ MERV 8, FPR 7 ≈ MERV 11, FPR 10 ≈ MERV 13. Always check MERV for an apples-to-apples comparison across brands.

Will a higher-MPR Filtrete filter restrict airflow in my system?

Higher MPR filters add static pressure to your HVAC system. Most modern furnaces and air handlers built after 2000 handle MPR 1000 (MERV 11) without issue, and many handle MPR 1500 (MERV 12) comfortably. MPR 1900 (MERV 13) is the step where airflow restriction becomes meaningful — older systems or tight 1″ slots may struggle.

Signs you've gone too high: weak vent airflow, blower running longer or louder, evaporator coil icing in summer, or higher utility bills. If any of those show up after switching, drop back one tier — e.g., MPR 1900 → MPR 1500 — or move to a 4″ deep-bed format which delivers high efficiency at lower restriction.

Sizing & fit
How do I know what size Filtrete filter I need?

The size is printed on the edge of your current filter. Read the nominal size — for example, 16x25x1 — and order that size. Filtrete actual filter dimensions run about 1/4″ less than nominal on each side, which is industry-standard for proper slot fit.

If the printed size is worn off, measure the filter slot itself — not the old filter — and round up to the nearest standard size. Our How to Measure guide walks through it step by step.

My Filtrete size isn't listed. What are my options?

Filtrete is sold in standard residential sizes only. If your slot is a non-standard size — common in older homes, commercial spaces, and some mid-century builds — Filtrete won't have it. We can usually get you the same MERV-equivalent performance through one of our other manufacturers in a custom size made to your exact slot dimensions.

Browse custom filters or request a quote with your slot dimensions and target MERV rating.

Cases, shipping & subscriptions
Why is Filtrete sold in cases of 4 instead of singles?

3M ships Filtrete to retailers in sealed factory cases — usually 4 filters per case for 1″ sizes, 2 filters per case for some 4″ and 5″ sizes. Selling them by the case keeps the original 3M packaging sealed all the way to your door, and it's how the math works out for the price you see on the page.

A year of filter changes for a typical home is roughly one case — so buying by the case usually means one purchase, not four. The case quantity for the size you've selected is shown on this page and enforced at checkout.

How fast will my Filtrete order ship?

Standard Filtrete sizes ship within 1–2 business days from the warehouse closest to your delivery address. Most orders arrive in 2–5 business days via UPS or FedEx ground. Free shipping on orders $50+ in the lower 48 states.

Current production and shipping timelines are live on our production schedule page.

Can I subscribe and save on Filtrete?

Yes. Filtrete ships on recurring delivery at a 10% discount on every order — cadences from every month through every 6 months, plus an annual option at 5% off. Pick the interval that matches your change-out schedule on the product page and we'll auto-ship.

Pause, skip, change cadence, swap the size, update the address, or cancel any time from your account dashboard. No emails required, no hold times, no cancellation fees.

Bulk, commercial & tax-exempt
Do you offer bulk Filtrete pricing for facilities or property managers?

Yes. Bulk and volume pricing on Filtrete is available for facilities, multifamily properties, fleets, and any organization ordering in standing rotation. We work with schools, clinics, property management companies, government agencies, and industrial facilities on recurring orders with negotiated pricing.

Request a quote with your specs and estimated annual volume, or visit our Commercial Services page.
