Koch Type GD fiberglass panel filters and disposable polyester panels — MERV 1-4 baseline filtration where the priority is maximum airflow and equipment protection rather than air quality. Used as throwaway prefilters in commercial AHUs ahead of Multi-Cell, DURAMAX, or MicroMAX final-stage filtration; in light-duty residential equipment where pleated construction would create excess pressure drop; and in property-management and rental portfolios where monthly filter changes favor the lowest-cost option. MERV 1-4 is engineered for equipment protection — it lets the maximum CFM through while catching lint, hair, and large debris that would otherwise foul the blower motor and evaporator coil. Not a substitute for pleated MERV 8+ in air-quality-sensitive applications.
