Geothermal Heat Pump Air Filters

Geothermal heat pumps use ground-source loops to heat and cool your home, but the air-side of a geothermal system still pushes conditioned air through a standard HVAC filter rack. The filter matters just as much as in a conventional system—and in some ways more, because a clogged filter reduces airflow, which forces the compressor to work harder and degrades the efficiency advantage that made geothermal worth the install cost in the first place.

What to Look For in a Geothermal Filter

  • Low pressure drop — geothermal systems are efficiency-sensitive; avoid high-resistance filters
  • MERV 8–11 for most systems — MERV 13 is possible on newer high-static geothermal units, but verify first
  • Correct size for your filter rack — geothermal cabinets often use non-standard sizes that need custom cuts
  • Long service intervals — pleated media at 60–90 days minimizes how often you disturb the system

Common Geothermal System Brands

We stock or custom-cut filters for WaterFurnace, Bosch, ClimateMaster, Trane geothermal, Carrier geothermal, and most other ground-source heat pumps.
