Forced air systems, like furnaces, air conditioning and heat pumps, move warm or cool air to your home through ducts and vents. To prevent dust and debris from being blown into your home along with that warm and cold air, your system will have one or maybe more filters. The filters not only improve indoor air quality but they also protect your forced air system. When filters get clogged with too much dust, they reduce the efficiency of your system and increase heating and cooling costs, since its harder for air to move from your heating system into your home. The build-up of hot air behind a very clogged filter can even raise the temperature near your heating system enough to trigger its emergency shut-off mechanism, causing your heating system to turn on and off intermittently. Clogged filters can also mean more mold, dust and other allergens in your home. Our goal at RememberTheFilter.com is to be the very best in indoor air filtration. With so many types of filters and our large selection it can be a little overwhelming. Here is a collection of our most popular filters for your forced air system. Many filters to choose from. Many ways to find them. Search for your filter by size, brand, filtration level and more!

How to Measure HVAC Filters

To find the correct replacement, measure the length, width, and depth of your existing filter. Most filters are labeled with a nominal size (like 16x24x1), which is a rounded number—actual measurements are often slightly smaller. Accurate sizing ensures a proper fit and helps maintain airflow efficiency.

How to Measure HVAC Filter

Step 1: Remove Old Filter

Turn off your system and remove the existing filter. Look for printed dimensions on the frame—this is usually the nominal size.

Step 2: Measure Actual Size

Use a tape measure to get exact dimensions (length × width × depth). Round down to the nearest 1/8" if needed—example: 15-5/8" × 23-5/8" × 3/4".

Step 3: Match or Order Custom

If your measurements don’t match a standard size, we offer custom filters made to your exact dimensions.
